CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Learn and play by the rules.
  • Never argue with an umpire.
  • Control your temper.
  • Work equally hard for yourself and for your team.
  • Be a good sport.
  • Treat all players as you would like to be treated.
  • Co-operate with your coach, teammates and opponents.
  • Respect your coach’s decisions, they are making decisions for the whole team, not just for you.
  • Listen to your coach and the umpire and thank both of them, and the opposing team, after your game.
  • Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Only the coach is allowed to give the players instructions during a game.
  • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
  • Encourage children to always participate according to the rules.
  • Parents and Spectators are not to stand behind the baseline while a game is in play.
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  • Remember that children learn best by example, applaud good play by all teams.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
  • Respect umpire decisions and teach children to do likewise.
  • A valid disagreement can be resolved through the correct channels, not at the game.
  • Show appreciation of coaches, officials, administrators and umpires. Without them, there would be no netball
  • Remember that children participate for pleasure, and that winning is only part of the fun.
  • Ensure your team plays by the rules.
  • Do not interfere with the progress of a game; ensure there is space for the umpire to move along the sideline.
  • Respect umpires decisions (even if you do not agree), and reflect this in your conversations with your team.
  • Refrain from arguing with an umpire/official. If you disagree, write on the back of the scorecard in a constructive manner.
  • Be reasonable in your demands on young players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
  • Avoid overplaying the talented players. The just-average need and deserve equal time.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.
  • Develop team respect for the ability of opponents and for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches.
